Konnichiwa, bitches

Thanks to you, Jeff, I couldn't sleep. It's 2:15 am and time for a photo story!

This picture was taken in October of 2008. I was 15 years old, and spending two weeks in Japan on a home-stay with my friend, Tayla (as seen above on right).

Japan as a whole came with tonnes of stories, in which I'm sure I'll cover throughout my blogging endeavours. However, this particular picture makes me think of something specifically hilarious.

First thing's first, I'll straighten something up really quickly for you. Yes, that is a giant, hello kitty head we're kissing. It's actually a bedside table!

Tayla and I lived with two different families, each for a week. We, of all the people that went, managed to get the two families that had nobody that could speak a word of english. At first we thought we were screwed, but really, we learned a lot from them, and it was a great experience learning to communicate without words. We became really close to our families that way.

Our second family seemed totally normal. Generally speaking, they were.. except onnneee little thing. The 50-something year old couple has a serious obsession with hello kitty. Now, I'm not sure if it was just the woman who was obsessed... but the man clearly condoned it, seeing as the house was filled with hello kitty ornamentation. Toilet seat covers, toilet paper covers, knick-knacks, calendars, slippers, wall hangings, plates, seat covers, purses... Everything piece of hello kitty paraphernalia you could thing of, they had.

Not only was it in their house, but in their car, too! "Phone charms" are all the rage in Japan, and on each of the handles above the doors of the vehicle hung seven carefully placed phone charms (hello kitty of course) and no two were the same! Yes, we checked.

In the seat pockets, there was hello kitty stuffed animals; there was a hello kitty blanket in the back seat and stuffies were even tucked into the glove box/dashboard area. Of course there was hello kitty seat covers, a hello kitty rear view mirror cover, and a steering wheel cover.

Tayla and I made numerous facetious videos about it, and when I get them on to this computer I'll be sure to share.

I've got more stories about this family, remind me.

See you soon Jordan?
Raine, you're still the man. Happy birthday, yesterday! :) Hope you had a fantastic day.
Jeff, why were you wondering about my spare?
I would appreciate it if you replied to my wall post.
Or maybe got a cell phone?

peace and love, but don't forget
fuck you bitch, my shirt brand new

  1. sleep is overrated.

that's really weird... isn't hello kitty directed toward little ones?

I love Japan. Not that I've ever been there, but I will one day, hopefully in September/October?
