I think it's cool that they can do that, and I know that the original artist does have to give their permission on their terms, but I don't think it's cool when a bunch of little girls run around saying, "omgomgomg Karl Wolf is sew hawt I luv that song Africa! He iz sew talented"
No girls, Toto wrote that song.. in 1982.
Karl Wolf made a nice tune and is a good musician, I guess, but what I hate it how he kind of butchered the meaningfulness of it.

The worst thing is when they don't believe you that someone else wrote it! People can be so ignorant.
However, I can't deny that I love dubstep remixes
(see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUluIUPfxVo about a minute in when it hits the remixed part it's siiick)
I also love in rap/hip-hop music when artists sample old music/piano loops. Classified does an excellent job of it and in his song 'Beatin' It' there's an unreal example.

If you're going to listen to a whole song on any of the videos I've linked you to in this post, make it be Beatin' It. It's really cool, and I love Classified.
What Jason Derulo did with Imogen Heap's 'Hide And Seek' was pretty cool too. I'm not a super fan of 'Whatcha Say' but it seems to be a pretty popular song.
I guess this post was kind of erratic, and I apologize.
I agree bunch. Especially when people mix songs and claim them as their own without giving credit to the deserving people. I enjoy a few tastefully done mixes of some songs, but they get overdone so easily when everyone and their mom claims to be a "DJ".
ReplyDeleteSolid example with Africa, I love the real version.
